About the Area
The Choochokam Arts Festival
Held for more than 35 years on Whidbey Island, the Choochokam Arts Festival is typically held the second week of July. There is no more beautiful setting than Whidbey Island for a gathering of the public and local artists to celebrate "A gathering of the stars" which is what Choochokam means in Hopi.
Artists that work in all mediums will be on site to show you their talents and wares as well as discuss the art with you. The waterfront event site is the perfect place to enjoy art of all kinds from local artists. There will be music and dancing too so bring your dancing shoes. There will also be painters, sculptors, other musicians, writers and poets to delight you with their talent and products. There is always plenty of entertainment and fun to be had at this yearly event.
The Clyde Theater will have a digital video contest and short film festival. This will be the first year for the film element to be included in the festival. Enjoy the entertainment as the local artists vie for prizes with their film and digital creations. With so much available now even to the amateur, including animation and special effects, it is anticipated that the event will be a hit.
You can take part in the event's annual half marathon or 10k walk. This takes place along the waterfront and is a certified course in an absolutely breathtaking area. Come for the race, to observe or just to enjoy the atmosphere. The race begins and ends at the Choochokam Arts Festival.
There are four stages at the festival so there is always plenty of good music going on. Dance to your hearts content while you enjoy the sounds of local bands and artists. No matter what your taste in music; Jazz, Hip-Hop, R&B or Rock there will be something for you to enjoy.
If you enjoy seeing woodworking, ceramics, jewelry, photography, printmaking or drawing (along with a lot of other types of art and artists) then you are going to love this memorable event in one of the most beautiful areas in the country.
You will also run across a couple of food exhibits including booths for gourmet snacks and more. If you enjoy art of any kind and want to spend a fun, relaxing couple of days on beautiful Whidbey Island, then consider visiting for the Choochokam Arts Festival.
