Whidbey Island Events and Destinations
As one of the jewels of the San Juan Islands in the Puget Sound of Washington State, Whidbey Island's Oak Harbor is a delightful place to leave the everyday world behind and dedicate yourself to enjoying your weekend. With loads of little shops to explore and gourmet delights, Oak Harbor is the center of the Island's activities. With numerous annual activities, Whidbey Island has something to offer year round, no matter what your tastes or interests.
A quick 25 miles ferry ride from Seattle, Oak Harbor Marina is the jumping off point to start your Whidbey Island adventure. If you are traveling from Seattle on your own sail boat or yacht, Oak Harbor Marina has both small and large slips available for rental, in addition to being a central site where you can rent kayaks, sail boats and paddle craft to explore the areas in and around the shoreline of Whidbey Island.
After toodling around the marina area, stop into Oak Harbor to explore the various stores and boutiques. For an afternoon bite to eat, check out Tastefully Simple and have a gourmet deli picnic lunch or stop in at Pami's Restaurant and Potbelly Deli. If your tastes run to the unique and unusual, stop by Greenbank Farms and visit their artisan pie shop or cheese shop to sample their unique gifts and gourmet foods. After lunching, stop by the tasting room and sample local award winning wines from Whidbey Island wineries like Holmes Harbor Cellars, Whidbey Island Vineyard and Winery and Blooms Winery.
From May through July, the weekly Oak Harbor Farmer's Market is also a wonderful place to visit. Open every Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm during the summer months, the Farmer's Market is a wonderful place to sample and buy local produce, which is also featured in many Whidbey Island restaurants.
With year round events, Whidbey Island is a great place to visit, no matter what time of year. In early May, learn about sustainable living at the North Whidbey Sustainability Fair. This is a fair where you can learn about organic gardening, green building and other green activities that make a positive contribution to green living.
In June, celebrate the ultimate rummage sale by visiting the Beachcomber's Bazaar at Windjammer Park. This bazaar supports the Kiwanis Club and celebrates recycling and reusing treasures and hidden gems.
In July, be sure to catch the annual July 4th holiday celebration at Windjammer Park. This wonderful annual event features a family parade, carnival and games. A huge fireworks show completes the day.
In August, enjoy National Night Out or the annual Car Show, where you can see hot custom cars and unique classic autos from the past. Lodging
