Whidbey Island Marathon
Among the many athletic events held in the area is the Whidbey Island Marathon which is held in the spring every year. Many people enjoy coming to the Island in the springtime to participate in the marathon or to be a part of the crowd.
Some of the most scenic spots of Whidbey Island are included in both the half and full marathons. In the full marathon, the scenic Deception Pass Bridge is included in the course. The half marathon includes the Oak Harbor waterfront.
The event aims for the green as far as recycling goes and they have stepped up efforts to collect as many recyclables as they can during the events. As with all of Whidbey Island events, volunteers are a big part of the Marathon. They do an outstanding job at the aid and recovery stations as well as on route to help the runners.

The full marathon is for runners only but runners and walkers are welcome to join in the half marathon. Runners (and walkers) range in age from under 20 to 70+. There are five different age groups within that span.
