Whidbey Island Oak Harbor Marina Grand Experience
Long thought of as an excellent vacation destination, Whidbey Island offers both easy access from Seattle for day trips and weekend getaways or as a travel destination all on its own. Located just 25 miles from Seattle and a few hours from Vancouver, Whidbey Island is a delightful retreat from the busy cities of the mainland. With craggy shores and the cries of osprey and eagles, Whidbey Island is a wonderful mix of quiet harbors, farmlands and quaint little village stores that will delight even the most casual visitor.
Oak Harbor Marina is a delightful starting point to exploring Whidbey Island. With slips for both small sailing craft and larger luxury yachts, Oak Harbor Marina is a delightful place to boat-watch or use as an arrival point for your Whidbey Island adventure.
The village of Oak Harbor is a shopper's delight. With gourmet food delis and small shops, Oak Harbor has something for everyone. To start your afternoon, stop in at Tastefully Simple and sample the gourmet delights they offer. Have an afternoon picnic basket packed for you or simply get a gourmet sandwich and enjoy it at one of the numerous parks to be found around Oak Harbor or at the Marina.
If you enjoy unique food items, visit Lavender & Wind Farm to sample their lavender infused jams, scones and honey or to simply stroll through the waving fields of purple and inhale the relaxing scent of lavender. If you visit during August, enjoy the Taste of Provence art festival, where you can enjoy the tastes and scents of everything lavender.
After an afternoon filled with visiting antique stores or enjoying the hand blown glass and handmade textiles and other offerings in the artist's galleries, get some relaxing exercise by renting a bicycle to enjoy the bike trails and see the rolling hills that hold farms and quiet country roads. If you enjoy exercise that is a little more vigorous, enjoy our waterways by visiting the Oak Harbor Marina and renting a waddle boat, sail boat or kayak and seeing the Gray Whales and sea lions swim their way around the Sound. If you visit during July, you can enjoy the Oak Harbor Whidbey Island Race Week, where professional and amateur sailors pit their skills against each other.
A delightful inn at Oak Harbor is the Coachman Inn. This wonderful hotel offers rooms and suites with old world charm, while at the same time offering conveniences like free high-speed wireless internet access, guest laundry rooms and a movie library.
