About the Area
Whidbey Island Scenic Isle Way
It's like getting lost in a whole new world; the Whidbey Island Scenic Way even to the residents is often an escape from the everyday world into one where time slows down, you notice things you never have before and you are surrounded by some of the most awesome beauty nature has to offer.
The Scenic Way is actually State Routes 525 and 20 but that somehow does not give the picturesque area its due. It is 48 miles long and if you drive straight through it takes one hour and 15 minutes plus a 20 minute ferry ride.
It is recommended that you do not drive straight through, though. Get out and venture off the highway to see what many local painters have already discovered; there is a treasure trove of scenic wonders that take you back to the seafaring days of yore.
See some of the old farm houses in the forefront of the waterways that have made the area famous. You will get to see a part of the world few stop to visit. Isn't that one of the things that make scenic road-trips worth the time and effort?
Some of the bigger attractions you will see along the route are:
- Deception Pass State Park
- Fort Ebey State Park
- Fort Casey State Park and the Admiralty Light House
- Ebey's Landing
- Greenbank Farm
- Smugglers Cove Road
That is just to name a few of the places you will see along the way. You can go along the Scenic Way or you can experience everything it has to offer. You can drive the hour and fifteen minute route or you can spend an entire week discovering some of the most fabulous places, people and events you have ever encountered. It's entirely up to you but it is pretty safe to say that once you get to the area, something will get your attention.
The Whidbey Island Scenic Isle Way is traveled by thousands of people and yet every one of them will recount a different memory of this beautiful drive. In fact, more than likely they will have many different memories that they share. If you love road trips, if you love nature's beauty and if you love adventure then you can start by travelling the Scenic Isle Way and see where exactly it will lead you.
