About the Area
Whidbey Island Triathlon
The annual Whidbey Island Triathlon includes biking, swimming and running on scenic areas of Whidbey. If you would like to take part in the triathlon you will start with a half mile swim in Goss Lake. After that you will be on your bike for a 19.5 mile course. You will finish off in a 3.8 mile run which will be partly in the park and partially on paved country roads. The spirit of the event is more community and cooperation than competitiveness but there are awards given the winners.
If you would rather not participate, you can always cheer on the contenders as they compete in the annual triathlon. The scenery is beautiful, the weather should be fine and it is expected that everyone will have a great time.
Visitors are very welcomed in this active community that hosts the triathlon and other summertime events. Enjoy the tranquil view of the water or a walk through the magnificent beauty of the community park.
Of course, you could also just use the triathlon as an excuse to visit this great area of the United States Pacific Northwest. Either way, you are sure to enjoy yourself.
Summer will be in full swing by August so the scenery should be spectacular. If you have never been to the area, you are in for a wonderful treat. There are breath-taking views and plenty of activity to keep you busy. There is also plenty of opportunity to just relax and enjoy the hospitality.
The triathlon starts at 9AM and is open to the first 250 swimmers. There are volunteers on hand to help participants and there will be a bike mechanic available to help with emergency repairs while in the race. If you are having people cheer you on and follow your progress, you are asked to make sure they stay off of the race roadways for the biker's safety. There should be a good turn out for this year's event, as usual. Be a part of the fun.
Whether you are a participant or an observer there will be many things for you to enjoy in the area. Whidbey Island is a friendly place with a lot of fun activities going on all summer long. Ride the ferries, enjoy the view, get in on some of the events or just relax. The triathlon is a much anticipated event and everyone is sure to have a good time.
