About the Area
Whidbey Island Wineries and Shopping
Whidbey Island is a terrific travel destination for anyone who loves whiling away afternoons visiting wineries, strolling through unique boutiques and stores or hopping on a bicycle to tour our gracious and relaxing island.
Located in the Puget Sound, Whidbey Island is just 25 miles north of Seattle and a few hours from Vancouver. The Puget Sound is home to teaming ocean life, including Orca, Gray whales, sea otters and seals. While rumor has it that the Puget Sound is fairly rainy, in reality we have lots of sunny days to enjoy beach combing or simply sitting on a chair and looking out over the ocean to watch resident and seasonal pods of Orca or whales swimming by, spouting a greeting as they pass.
For outdoor activities, rent a kayak and paddle out to get an up-close view of the wild life or rent a bicycle for a relaxing afternoon ride around the island. If you are a little more adventurous and like cold water diving, rent scuba gear and check out the abundant sea life.
Whidbey Island Wineries
No need to travel to California to see the wine country. It is right here in Washington on our gorgeous Whidbey Island. There are several beautiful wineries to visit, including Holmes Harbor Cellars and Whidbey Island Vineyard and Winery. With sweeping views of lovely Puget Sound, watch pods of whales go by while sipping on award winning wines. Steeped in European traditions, and named 2006 Northwest Winery of the Year, Holmes Harbor Cellars is a small family-run winery that features a tinkling fountain and live music. Whidbey Islands Vineyard and Winery also features award-winning wines and tours of the winery where you can talk to the vintner and winemaker and learn about their love of wines and the art of blending and creating excellent wines.
