About Whidbey Island

Whidbey Island is one of Washington's most scenic areas. In Puget Sound just south of the San Juan Islands and north of Seattle, the island has three beautiful State Parks, several placid lakes, primeval forests, wild beaches, ample parks and charming communities. The stunning Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges are clearly visible from many parts of the island.

Visitors and residents alike enjoy life out of doors, hiking, fishing, boating, camping, diving, swimming, biking, bird watching and golfing in the warm months and sledding and snow-shoeing in winter. Many artists and creative people call Whidbey Island home, enriching our communities with art galleries, good theater, craft and antique stores and wineries. Visitors can choose a scenic spot to relax in for the day, or tour the island which takes about 1.5 hours by car.

Oak Harbor is in northern Whidbey, near Deception Pass and the US Navy base. The historic downtown area is a charming place to shop or relax over a coffee, and it overlooks a waterfront park, a full service marina and beaches that offer panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains and the Cascade Range. We recommend you take an easy bike or hike along our waterfront to Deception Pass or Fort Casey State Park; it's beautiful, relaxing, and free!
